Wii -- My Daughter Loves It, too
April 19th 2010 14:10
I steer my daughter clear of video games. I see what it has done to some kids -- interrupts their study and social skills.
I am happy to discover that trends in video games are changing to a more active participation and less individualization. I am speaking of the Wii gaming console from Nintendo. I am delighted to see players moving about interacting with other payers during a synthesized game of tennis, bowling, baseball or racquetball.
My friends who are mothers agree that Wii is a hit because of motion controls. It’s a no brainer. Getting kids more actively involved with games is not a new idea. Arcades were at a slow, empty death a decade ago, but recently came back to life with Dance Dance Revolution.
Dance Dance Revolution is a winner. Our athletic club offers it at the Kid’s Center. I finish my racquetball games and sure enough I see my daughter out of breath, very alert and sweating.
When Wii made its debut at the Kid’s Center at our athletic club, kids actually become a part of the onscreen action. The motion controls are getting kid’s into the game. I no longer see hypnotized children caused by the old video games. Now, they play games together in motion. I see them laughing and competing in a friendly way.
Don’t get me wrong. I still believe it’s important for kids or adults to experience the real game. If you are looking for a substitute baby sitter, the Wii Remote easily justifies the means.

I love it too. If only it were a little cheaper

That's true about being able to workout or play indoors with Wii. Pricey yes, but I figure as long as one uses it, then it's worth the cost.
Do you have one?

No Myth Fitness

Yes, friends that have it make it fun. Why should everyone have one.
We don't have one but our fitness club does and that is where my daughter plays with her friends.
I still try to limit screen time, so at the club makes it perfect for parenting.
I play racquetball and she plays Wii with her friends.
