Peaches are going to be yummy this year!
The harvesting, packaging and selling of Georgia's peaches have begun, and growers are looking for an unusually large crop growth and harvest this year, which is also know as a bumper crop.
The conditions for growing peaches were favorable with farmers thinning the crop.
Thinning occurs when the peaches are abundant on the tree and some need to be cut off or the peaches will turn out too small. It all looks promising unless Mother Nature decides to create a storm, windstorm or too much rain. Other than that it’s been about six years since farmers in Georgia have had a full crop.
The early variety that will go on sale first is the red peach, known for its rich flavor. They are yummy! Peaches are rich in nutrients.
You gotta love 'em!
All in all, Mother Nature has been good to the peaches this year. The weather’s been perfect. The early varieties become ripe in late May with the last peaches ripened by late July.
