Hip Flexor Stretch
July 6th 2010 04:39
Bodybuilders, kickboxers, racquetball players (you name it) should learn the hip flexors lunge stretch because it is one of the most successful stretches for the muscle group. Stretching your hip flexors will help keep your hips active into the golden years.
To do the stretch, place your body in a lunge position and press back completely through to your heels as your knee slowly lowers to the floor.
The main attempt is to push down into your hips because this opens up your flexors a bit more. Of course, you need to breathe effortlessly and avoid holding in your breath.
While doing the stretch keep in mind to hold the stretch up to 30 seconds, making sure to do the same stretch on the other leg.
Now, to make the stretch a bit more effective and deeper, bring the hands and place them stacked on top of the quadriceps. Once again, lean ever so gently into the hip flexors.
Notice your hamstring is also stretching a bit. You can even go a little further with your stretch as you become more limber. Use the wall for this modification, which stabilizes the body. Raise the right foot and bring your heel into your glut. This modification opens your hip flexors even more.
Key point to remember while performing this stretch is to push forward in the hips, to develop this position to create an even deeper and more open stretch.
