"I really want to get into shape, but I just don"t know how to begin." Sometimes this is a valid question and many times what is really being siad is " I don't really want to do the work of getting into shape,so I use this pretext."

Lets assume you are really ready to go and genuinely don't know how to begin. O.k., The first question is what kind of exercise and where. If you're out of shape, I am going to assume that you don't have an activity that is a passion that you can rely upon to get you back in shape. So, lets talk.

If you don't know what to do, you have the following question to answer: Gym Home or Home Gym? There is a pretty good argument to be made for either working out at home and some good reasons for joining a gym.

Working out at home means anytime and however much you want. It can easily mean rarely and not very spiritedly. You know, there is always stuff to divert you at home. The phone, the TV, the dog, you name it. But, working out at home shields you from being around those fit people that intimidate you. I can relate. If you can't stand the thought of the gym and you really want to train your body, get on the net and start looking for an exercise package, a machine, a set of videos, a television show...whatever. Buy it, try it. Read everything that the system includes and start following the instructions.

I remember, Ladies, when Jane Fonda produced her workout videos-a kind of first in mass marketed fitness. Many women got into fitness via these videos and never left the house. Well, DVDs on fitness are all over the net. Start looking. You can do it.

Men, pilates or something like that will get you going too. Don't wait. Start looking at Bowflex or some ellipticals, treadmills or exercise bikes. Yeah, I am totally biased toward the gym, but give me a home gym or a Nordictrac and I will use it.

Bottom line, everybody. Get going today. Leave this blog and get to looking and planning. Next time I'll make my case for the gym.
