This is a blog about everyday human beings who want to get into shape and would like to do it minus the hype and mythology that permeate the fitness world. That probably includes you, Ladies!

In my 40 years in the gym I've gotten very frustrated with what women believe about weights and fitness. The myths are so many I don't know where to start.

Actually I do. The most outrageous myth that women have bought into is the "I don't want to lift weights and get big" whopper.

The odds that a normal woman with normal genetics and no penchant for drug abuse getting " BIG" is just laughable. I say this: Ladies, weight lifting is the greatest thing in the world for women. It's better for you than for men.

Go to the free-weight area of a gym and look around. There are men there who are (secretly or) openly trying like gangbusters to get big. And how many are getting big, big ,big? Not very many. They work hard and they have the bounty of nature's testosterone and most of them are not big.

Yet, woman after woman I've met "doesn't want to get big." You won't! By the way if after a few weeks you get big muscles bulging out everywhere with 3 or 4 half hour workouts a week, contact me. I will come to you wherever you are and pay you to show me how.

What do weights do for women? Shape, shape, shape. Weights make certain parts of you get smaller and others get bigger. And you get to choose which parts do which! We all know that parts being the right size in comparison to other parts is a canon for beauty. The weights are also going to give you a more athletic look (because you"ll be an athlete.) They will prepare you for aging by making you bones strong. They will make you feel good about yourself like you do when you take control of any situation and deal with it.

And finally the funny part. You, ladies, can work as hard as you can and you won't ever get to" big" -ever. You will just get the benefits. Don't believe me? Work out a few weeks and until you feel like your muscles are bigger (not big...bigger). Stop for a few weeks. Yes, they get smaller. So stop worrying about BIG and get into a regimen. I'll be right here to advise you.
