I came across a wonderful article about Olympic swimmer Dara Torres. She is a mother of a 5-year-old daughter, and she finds time to compete. That means she finds time to work out and keep in shape.
She told Daily Dose, ``I have my days. But I`m a goal-setter, so I know that if I don`t get up and do what I need to do I won`t meet my goals.``
That is a truism we can all agree on if we are mothers or not.
Being a professional athlete, her goals are different from you or I, though sometimes when I play racquetball I consider myself a professional. All kidding aside, Torres`s goals are different compared to mine or someone just starting an exercise program. Yet, the basics of discipline or will-power and encouragement are not dissimilar.
So what does Torres offer in tips for getting or staying in shape?
You should read the article because it`s very good. But what I found to be true is that she recommends starting slow. You can`t be an Olympic winner overnight, but you can set that goal and work toward it as a strategy in the game of life.
``Always make sure you take it slow so that you don`t injure yourself,`` Torres said. ``There are a lot of videos out there if you can`t make it to a gym, or you can hire a trainer to show you the basics and go from there.``
Torres has an awesome website if you are interested in staying in shape or rubbing elbows with a geniune sports celebrity.
