I found a wonderful work out article at The New York Times, written by Suzanne DeChillo.
The article is about exercises that can be done in a hotel room. With routines like jumping jacks, squat thrusts and advanced dips, a traveler can keep themselves in shape.
I recommend viewing the article because it sheds some light on the fact that calisthenics are perfect exercises for a 15 minute workout anywhere. The old, tried and true exercise regime is on a comeback.
For one the exercises are explosive, they get the body pumped and ready to face the day or as a pick me up in the mid-afternoon. There are no weights, machines, kettle bells, treadmills or any of the other popular gym accessories in this exercise repertoire.
You use your own body weight as resistance, very similar to the exercises described in an old YMCA fitness booklet I read about twenty years ago. In DeChillo`s article, she refers to WW I basic training techniques.
However, calisthenics is not the do all exercise program. They are a quite fix or a maintenance program for travelers or those who couldn`t fit in a normal workout at the gym that day. But, I say, At least, it`s a solution to your busy and sometimes hectic lives. Especially, moms, who juggle, juggle between ballet practice, soccer and swim team meets.
Something else to consider about doing calisthenics while travelling, the routine does keep you engerized that is invaluable if you have high demanding clients or sales presentations.
